My wetsuit came this past Friday and it fits well. I am hoping to get into the pool with it later this week. I had planned to try it today (Sunday) but decided to do a 10.5 mile run instead. While I felt that I could have run at least another 5 miles or so, as I ran by my house I clearly heard the call of a nap. I have set my weekly goal as getting 30 miles per plus one stride workout. I have fallen a little short in my goal the last couple of weeks but I am still way ahead of where I was last year at this time....and I feel good about that.
There was no riding this weekend due to the rain and wind but we did Capital View triathlon ride on Thursday night with the group. That ride went really well for me, I cannot say exactly what my pace was but I finished in an hour and twenty min which was a new record for me....and I kind of screwed around on different parts so, it felt good too. Oh yea we finished with a stop a Capital Brewery, we tried the Maibock and Supper Club. That's Nutrition. Absolutely nothing beats having a beer with the group after a ride. The conversation and the socialization, the overall bull shitting could not be better.
Not sure who all reads this but I would love to know what anyone does for nutrition on long rides or runs. I am especially interested in knowing what kind of drinks or drink mix you you use. Do you find one better than the other? I would also like to know when you use them.

Training
I have been working on my IM training plan the past couple of weeks. While I have a plan that I can stick to, I did run it by Kevin to see if I am on track. Kevin's recommendations were to add intensity so some of the workouts and in some cases add some distance, especially on the swim and run.
Training has not been bad but can not say that I have always been the best either. This past week I ran 27.7 miles (according to Google) 13.7 were done last Sunday. I fell short of my 30 mile goal but I still felt good about the run portion of my training. I need to work on nutrition. Last Sunday I experienced my first bonk, I cramped up on mile ten and it took me a full day to recover from the long run. Today I missed my long run mostly due to the fact that it was my daughters prom and I stayed up way past my bedtime. To see her in her dress and the smile on her face, I'll trade training to see that any day.
I have been getting out on the bike too and that feels really great. Yesterday I had my first time on the Ironman bike course. Despite the head winds and the cross winds I felt that it went pretty well. There were no hills that I felt were big trouble and I hope that if I can do the course without the wind I can go faster. I have a fair amount of work to do on the bike. What I learned Saturday was that I need to stay off the breaks when I turn and need to take better advantage of going down hills. Overall however while I am anxious to improve my performance, I am confident about my ability to do the course.
I have also been in the water some...unfortunatly the workouts came on the nicest afternoons of the year so far. It was really hard to focus on doing good work in the pool when it is sunny and 80 outside.

Spring Training
I have not updated for a bit here but plenty has gone on. We have had a few rides outside and I have done quite a bit of running. Nutritionaly I am completly focused on the bag of Robin Eggs(BTW: the best Easter Bunny Candy) that I got for Easter. This week I am going to use my free time to find a wetsuit. I am kinda thinking that I will go to Fleet Feet one night and Endurance House on another. Don't get me wrong I will still be working out but I need to get some other work done for my events.
The UW football team is getting ready for spring training and I need to do the same, my big event is the day after the first game of the season. While I am working putting together a schedule I am trying to figure out how many days a week I will workout vs. active recovery. I really am hoping that I can spend most of the time training outdoors. Right now I am thinking 3-4 rides a week with a long ride either Saturday or Sunday. I am also planning 3-4 runs and swims per week with multi sport on three of the days and an actual brick on Saturday. My other big planning will focus on nutrition....after the Robin Eggs are gone. I absolutly need to get focused not quite six months left.
