I have been working on my IM training plan the past couple of weeks. While I have a plan that I can stick to, I did run it by Kevin to see if I am on track. Kevin's recommendations were to add intensity so some of the workouts and in some cases add some distance, especially on the swim and run.
Training has not been bad but can not say that I have always been the best either. This past week I ran 27.7 miles (according to Google) 13.7 were done last Sunday. I fell short of my 30 mile goal but I still felt good about the run portion of my training. I need to work on nutrition. Last Sunday I experienced my first bonk, I cramped up on mile ten and it took me a full day to recover from the long run. Today I missed my long run mostly due to the fact that it was my daughters prom and I stayed up way past my bedtime. To see her in her dress and the smile on her face, I'll trade training to see that any day.
I have been getting out on the bike too and that feels really great. Yesterday I had my first time on the Ironman bike course. Despite the head winds and the cross winds I felt that it went pretty well. There were no hills that I felt were big trouble and I hope that if I can do the course without the wind I can go faster. I have a fair amount of work to do on the bike. What I learned Saturday was that I need to stay off the breaks when I turn and need to take better advantage of going down hills. Overall however while I am anxious to improve my performance, I am confident about my ability to do the course.
I have also been in the water some...unfortunatly the workouts came on the nicest afternoons of the year so far. It was really hard to focus on doing good work in the pool when it is sunny and 80 outside.
